Summer Language Immersion Courses

The Summer Language Immersion Courses in Beginning Arabic, Spanish and American Sign Language are 4-week intensive courses designed to introduce students to culture through the development of basic interpretive and communication skills in the language. The language immersion series uses a learner-centered, proficiency-based approach, where students engage in conversations, obtain information, and express feelings and opinions. Instructors create an immersion experience through situations that resemble real life in American Deaf culture and Arab and Spanish-speaking cultures. Coursework is enhanced with multimedia materials (videos, websites, RamCT), interactive work with conversation partners and trips to local organizations, restaurants, etc.

Each course is 5 credits and meets from 8:45 a.m. – 12:25 p.m.
LSGN 109 Beginning American Sign Language (4-weeks, May 17 – June 11)
LARA 105 First Year Arabic I (4-weeks, June 14 – July 9)
LARA 107 First Year Arabic II (4-weeks, July 12 – Aug. 6)
LSPA 105 First Year Spanish I (4-weeks, May 17 – June 11)
LSPA 107 First Year Spanish II (4-weeks, June 14 – July 9)

This course is 3-credits and meets from 8:40-10:50 a.m., Monday – Friday
LSPA 200 Second Year Spanish I (4-weeks, May 17 – June 11)
