The Summer Vet program is a student’s ticket to the world
of veterinary medicine! For students who are serious about
becoming a veterinarian, this is a super opportunity to look
into the real and sometimes gritty field of veterinary medicine.
Through presentations, demonstrations, laboratories, visits, and
in-depth, hands-on activities, students discover what modern
veterinary medicine is about. Participants meet professors,
practitioners, and students in the discipline and have ample
opportunity to talk with them. Some of the activities of the
program include:
Examining skeletons and learning how specimens are prepared;
Discussing preparation for a career in veterinary medicine;
Studying emergency medicine and first aid;
Equine reproduction;
Cancer research in animals; and
Observing clinical procedures in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
The program is for students who will be entering the 10th
through 12th grades in Fall 2010 and will be held June 21 – 25,
2010 in the afternoons and may be combined with the morning
SciTrek program to make a full day of science related activities.
