WS 200 Introduction
to Women’s Studies (3 credits)
First 4-week term: May 18 – June 12; 9:50-12:20
Introduction to Women’s Studies is designed to introduce the concept of
feminism, privilege and oppression, and provide students with a foundation
for exploring these topics. As a result of this class, students will:
Develop a basic understanding of and create
a personal definition of feminism
Understand and critically analyze the intersections of oppressions,
including racism, classism, ableism, and homophobia.
Develop an understanding of the limitations placed on individuals
because of gender-based stereotypes and expectations.
Learn to critically analyze societal messages and develop practical
skills for managing these messages in their current and future lives.
